Leadership is not a title. It is a practice.
Jukeido is a dignity-centered leadership framework born from doctoral research inside one of the world's leading jiu jitsu academies: an organization with no formal inclusion infrastructure where practitioners nonetheless describe genuine mutual respect, enacted daily. Jukeido distills how that happens, and brings it to the daily work of leading teams.
The Name
Three roots, one path
Jukeido draws its name from the values that make an academy work, values every practitioner learns long before earning a black belt.
The Framework
Five relational practices, one dignity-centered path
In a jiu jitsu academy, character develops in the same order the belts do. Jukeido names the five practices that carry a person, and an organization, from first day to mastery. Each one is observable, learnable, and immediately relevant to how leaders build teams where people do their best work.
White
Connection
Jū · Gentleness
Everyone enters equal. Belonging and shared humanity come before rank, background, or credentials.
Blue
Consent
Kei · Respect
Trust is negotiated openly. Boundaries are stated, honored, and collectively enforced.
Purple
Challenge
Dō · Discipline
Growth comes through shared, calibrated difficulty: hard enough to stretch, safe enough to try.
Brown
Credibility
Kei + Dō
Authority is earned through visible example and consistency, never asserted through title alone.
Black
Care
Jū + Kei
The culmination of the path: an ongoing commitment to the growth and dignity of others.
The belt around your waist means nothing until the person across from you trusts what you do with it.
A Jukeido principle
Grounding
Built on research, service, and practice
Jukeido was developed by Christian Pierce through doctoral research at the University of St. Gallen on dignity, hierarchy, and belonging inside Alliance Jiu Jitsu, one of the most decorated academies in the world, and through a career spanning the U.S. Army, international business education, and two decades of martial arts.
